Jonaki ta jol chilo
Brishtir moddhe udhchilo
Kaleen rattir e
Michhi micchi shey phutchilo

Bheja bheja pakha niye
Bhoye te tar aalo ta,
Kemon jano
Nibhe nibhe jacchilo.

Kadam phool gaacher aadhale,
ittu dadhiye shey bhablo.
Khaowa toh aar holona,
Badhi he nahoye phire jabo.

Mon toh holo ittu khaarap,
Kintu shekhao toh holo.
Ashbe bipod, ashbe jhod,
Hobe shokal o aabar, ke korbe maana.

Daana mele daana udhbo aabar
Thakbe aaro onek khabar
Thakbe notun din er aakash
Aar jonakir rattir.

Author’s Note

This is my first time trying my hand out in Bengali poetry. Being a native speaker of the language, I am still very amateur at it. Jonaki translates to yet another marvel of nature- Fireflies, and it is just a small fragment of my imagination that makes me thrilled at the mere sighting of these tiny glowing creatures, striking a chord of shear nostalgia from the times when we were little.
